Carcassonne: Inns and Cathedrals is the first expansion for the famous tile-laying game Carcassonne, and it is also one of the most important, as it includes the game pieces needed to increase the number of players.

This expansion of Klaus-Jürgen Wrede's classic Carcassonne includes new tiles, rules, and a new set of pawns that allows the number of players to be increased to a maximum of six. The other expansions already include the additional pieces for this sixth player, but Inns and Cathedrals is required in order to play. 

The new rules and tiles in Inns and Cathedrals include inns along the roads, which increase the value of the roads, and cathedrals, which triple the value of cities if players manage to complete them, although they increase the risk, as a city that includes a cathedral and is not completed will not award any points. A new token is also included for each player: the senior follower. This token is worth half a point more than the other followers, giving a significant advantage when scoring for cities, roads, or farms where other players' followers are also present.
