Quorum

The Roman Empire spans the entire known world. The expansion of civilization is evident in all aspects of life, from trade to architecture, the power of the army to political intrigue, and the presence of the gods is evident in the lives of humans. As a senator of this vast empire, will you be able to expand your influence throughout its provinces?

A work by Raúl Franco and Fran Martínez and illustrated by Bea Tormo, Quorum allows games for 2 to 4 players, ages 14 and up, lasting approximately 45 minutes. In Quorum, players take on the role of Roman senators who divide power in Rome and its provinces to achieve the greatest possible influence. The objective is to be the most powerful and influential senator through victory points, which are earned in the game's various areas of influence at the end of the twelve rounds.

Learning to play Quorum is very easy, but scoring as many points as possible is a challenge. Basically, you can score points in two ways: by influencing the six provinces on the central board or by achieving certain card combinations in your personal area.

The cards show a province on one side (and, if played, a player will score points in that province on the central board), and on the other side, they show one of the four groups: military, intrigue, architecture, and commerce, which will provide different bonuses depending on the final combination in each player's personal area. In addition, there are 14 god cards, which affect the score value of the provinces on the central map and can turn the game around at any time.

Each player starts with four cards in their hand; on their turn, they will draw a card from a common market and then play a card from their hand to the play area, influencing one of the provinces on the board. Once these two steps are resolved, the turn passes to the player on their right, and so on until all players have 12 cards in front of them (having played a total of 12 turns each).

And how do the cards in the play area score? At the end of the game, military cards score points for each pair or trio of consecutive values; intrigue cards score points equal to the number of intrigue cards multiplied by the number of 3-value cards in the player's personal area; architecture cards score points for each distinct card of this type accumulated by the player; and trade cards score points based on the size of the product pool present on cards of this type.

With many interesting choices to make each turn, Quorum is a game that is easy to learn and quick to play, but one that will test the strategic skills of all players. Is it better to secure leadership in a province or acquire a specific card to maximize the score? In short, a game worth an empire.
